Olivia Sun
Dr. Olivia Sun - 6th Dan Black Belt; gold medal forms champion in national, international and world competition; and esteemed member of the Kim Studio family for over twenty years - lost her fight with cancer on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Olivia joined the Kim Studio family in July 2001 as a black belt. She quickly rose through the ranks by demonstrating her outstanding ability in the Martial Arts.
She demonstrated traditional forms by competing and winning the highest awards in the Korean competition circuit. In our own American Invitational Eagle Classic tournament she won grand champion eight times. She then competed and won in national competition in the A.A.U. where she was undefeated. Desiring greater competition, she entered the international tournament venue of the W.O.M.A organization. Olivia again brought home the gold. Next Olivia challenged herself by entering a different martial arts venue - W.K.C., World Karate Championship - where she competed to be part of Team U.S.A. winning her spot on the team five times. Olivia was a champion in all of her endeavors. She worked hard, never cutting corners in her training, and never giving up when she was faced with any challenging obstacle.
It is with our most heartfelt sorrow that we offer our condolences to the Sun Family. Olivia is survived by her mother, father and sister. Saying goodbye is never easy, and when someone so vibrant and young is gone we are left asking, why? However sometimes there is no answer to that question. We do know that Olivia left a legacy of inspiring excellence in every aspect of her life. She inspired many young and not so young lives, and she will be missed dearly. She was our student, our protege, and part of the Kim Studio legacy; but mostly she was a loved member of our family.
